The Little Prince: featured in our Journées de la culture activities!

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Les journées de la Culture, the City of Beaconsfield is offering several special activities from Friday, September 30 to Sunday, October 2. These activities are presented under the theme of The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

Grab your cultural passport (pictured above) at the library, Recreation Centre or Centennial Hall. Visit the three destinations for a chance to win prizes!

There will be a special Little Prince story time on Saturday, October 1 at 2:00 p.m. for 4 to 7 year-olds. Children will hear an adapted, bilingual reading of The Little Prince and will make their own fox puppets. Registration and a valid library card are required.

See you soon!

Sick Caterpillars

Image result for chenille monarque

It saddens us to tell you that our caterpillars passed away last week.

They caught a parasite that is very common among Monarch caterpillars: Ophryocystis elektroscirrha (pronounced O-free-us-sis-tus Electra-sceer-rah).

It is a protozoan -- single-celled -- parasite.

The parasite's spores contaminated the plant that the caterpillars were using for food, which caused them to become ill and die.

According to the specialists at the Insectarium, it's one of the risks that comes along with raising Monarch caterpillars.

We would like to thank you for participating in this project.
