Princess Snow Ball

The library team has participated in the Princess Snow Ball of Beaconsfield organized by the Recreation Centre. 

Many of you came to this event, and it was very nice to see you in a different and more festive context.

New furniture for the teens!

This year, the Friends of the library have asked Santa Claus for new furniture for the teen section... and their wish was granted!

Come to the library to read your favorite books or to study in our new and comfortable armchairs.

Harry Potter Scavenger Hunt : a success!

Thank you for coming to the Harry Potter Scavenger Hunt on Friday, October 30. There were more than 125 participants! Thanks to your generosity, your creativity and your dynamism, this activity was amazing.

This year for Halloween we have prepared a huge party for you! 

Come to the library on Friday October 30th at 6:30 p.m. for an epic Harry Potter scavenger hunt. You will have to face challenges and to solve riddles to defeat Voldemort.

Tell your parents and all your friends. This is an event you cannot miss.

Goodbye butterflies!

Last Monday, we set the last monarch free. We are proud to have participated in the Monarchs Without Borders program. We were lucky to see nine caterpillars become beautiful and healthy monarchs. Let's wish them the best of luck in their migration to Mexico. 

We would like to thank everyone who came to the library to observe the butterflies.

Chrysalis

5 of our 7 caterpillars have formed their chrysalis during the weekend. Another one is in "J" position, ready to join its friends any minute now. 

In about two weeks, we should have beautiful monarchs in the library. Come see them! We will be happy to answer any of your questions.

The caterpillars are growing up!

Hi everybody,

The caterpillars are growing up very quickly. Come to the library to see them before they make their cocoons. We also have two chrysalis in very good shape. Theoretically, they should hatch before next week. Do not miss the monarchs flight. 

We will regularly update their evolution on the blog.

Come see our butterflies!

From September 2 to 23, as part of the Montreal Insectarium's Monarchs Without Borders program, we will be raising monarch butterflies in a butterfly tent in the Young People's Department.

Come see the caterpillars evolve into butterflies and set them free. We will need your help to label the butterflies so that scientists can study their migration. Come to the library often if you want to witness this fabulous adventure!

Thank you for a wonderful summer!

This summer we had a blast at the library; we're sad to see it end. 

Here are a few stats:

• We had over 50 activities.
• Participants read for a collective 3 140 hours.
• We awarded our readers with reading certificates, gift certificates, museum passes, and one lucky reader walked away with a bright red iPod Touch.

Our closing party was held on the evening of Wednesday, August 12, at the Recreational Centre. Among the 85 participants were mayor Georges Bourelle and Member of Parliament for Lac-Saint-Louis, Mr. Francis Scarpaleggia. A big thank you goes to M. Pierre Duhaime, who amazed and delighted with his circus act.

Summer Reading Party!

The Summer Reading Club is already over. To celebrate your efforts, the library has organized a party for the whole family on Wednesday August 12th at 7:00 p.m. at Centennial Park*. You will receive your reading certificate and we will announce the winners of the grand prize draws.

We have also organized a party for teens on Friday August 14th in the council chamber of City Hall. Games, food and other surprises await you! 

Reminder : you have until 9:00 p.m. today (Monday August 10th) to register your reading hours. This is your last chance to get draw tickets!

The library activities are over for the summer, but amazing programs are planned for the fall.

Stop Motion Animation Contest: VOTE!

What is stop motion animation?
Stop motion animation is captured one frame at time, using objects that are moved between frames. When you play back the sequence of images rapidly, it creates the illusion of movement.

On July 23, children participated in a Stop-Motion Animation workshop. In this workshop, they were tasked with creating a short film using a camera and LEGO bricks. You can now see their videos and vote for your favorite.

Play with... words!

It's Word Play week at the library! On the agenda: LEGO BINGO, dressmaker tales, game crafting, board game night and quilting. 

There are still a few spots open for all of the workshops.

It's nature week at the library! On the agenda: activities about waste reduction, birds, fossils, and rug hooking.

Play With... Gadgets

It's gadget week at the library! On the agenda: activities about coding, Minecraft and physics. There are still a few spots open for these activities, so come register at the library if you would like to participate in these special workshops!

Reminder: on Friday mornings from 10 a.m. until noon,  you can come build a craft, free of charge, on a drop-in basis! The craft will take between 15 and 30 minutes to complete.

We began our weekly draws this week. Don’t forget to bring your reading log each time you come to the library so that you can participate in our draws! The next draw will take place Monday, July 13. The more you read, the more chances you will have to win prizes!

Art Contest

On this April 23,  World Book and Copyright Day, I have the great honour to announce the winners of our art contest ''My Library, a World to Discover''.

Congratulations to Rachel Lafortune, Katie Kyriakatos, and Jade Auclair, the three winners of our art contest! Each won a laminated copy of their drawing, as well as a gift certificate for $35 to spend at Babar Books.

Their drawings were printed on banners, which are on display at the library. All are welcome and encouraged to come admire them. 

We would like to thank all the children who participated in this contest! Participants who did not win may come pick up their drawings at the library. 

Attention aspiring artists!

Are you dreaming of learning tips and tricks from real artists? On Saturday, April 18, you will have that chance! 

The artists who produced the works that are part of this month's art exhibition, Childhood Nostalgia, will be at the Beaconsfield Library Saturday April 18 from 10:30 a.m. to noon to offer an art lesson to young aspiring artists ages 7 to 12.

Tumblebooks!

Have you heard about Tumblebooks?

It's a free site where you can read animated picture books. For each book, a narrator reads the story and you can follow along by reading the text. Each book is accompanied by its own music, sound effects, and animations! The Beaconsfield Library has books in both English and French.

Do you want to give it a try? You can access ths site by clicking "E-books", then "TumbleBooks" on the home page of the library catalogue.

Spotlight on March Break

It's cold! Are you already looking forward to March Break? From March 2 to March 6, there will be lots to do at the Beaconsfield Library! During this special week, you will be able to participate in activities highlighting Quebec traditions: carnival, folklore, musical instruments, Aboriginal peoples, the sugar shack, and others.

Join us for an afternoon of fun with games on the theme of the famous Quebec winter carnival.

A Day with the Aboriginal People 
(ages 7 to 12)

Learn about Quebec’s aboriginal peoples while creating your own art objects.
