Ecomuseum: Endangered Species

A zoologist from the Ecomuseum zoo came to talk to us about Quebec's endangered species. She offered us tips on how to live in harmony with wild animals.

We also had the chance to touch a few of the creatures she brought with her!

Frozen: Icy Experiments

Turn water into ice... magically!

For this experiment, you will need to put a bottle of filtered water in the freezer for about 3 hours (check on it every 15 minutes after two and a half hours). You will also need a bowl of crushed ice.

· The idea is to get the bottled water just above the freezing point (0°C) so that it's still liquid. Pour the supercooled water into a glass.

· Next, put your finger in the bowl of crushed ice. (You only need a little bit on your finger.) Then put your finger into the glass of supercooled water. It's magic!

Make an icy structure

For this experiment, you will need to put a bottle of filtered water in the freezer for about 3 hours (check on it every 15 minutes after two and a half hours). You will also need a container of completely frozen water.

· Carefully pour the supercooled water on the ice and, as if by magic, an icy sculpture will form. Try to build a tower, or even Olaf before the ice starts to melt!
