Tumblebooks!

Have you heard about Tumblebooks?

It's a free site where you can read animated picture books. For each book, a narrator reads the story and you can follow along by reading the text. Each book is accompanied by its own music, sound effects, and animations! The Beaconsfield Library has books in both English and French.

Do you want to give it a try? You can access ths site by clicking "E-books", then "TumbleBooks" on the home page of the library catalogue.

Here are a few new books that were added to the TumbleBooks site in the last few weeks.

Wolf's Coming!

Once Upon a Balloon

Spotlight on March Break

It's cold! Are you already looking forward to March Break? From March 2 to March 6, there will be lots to do at the Beaconsfield Library! During this special week, you will be able to participate in activities highlighting Quebec traditions: carnival, folklore, musical instruments, Aboriginal peoples, the sugar shack, and others. 

Monday, March 2 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm

Carnival Games (ages 7 to 12)

Join us for an afternoon of fun with games on the theme of the famous Quebec winter carnival.

Free. Drop-in.

Tuesday, March 3 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm

A Day with the Aboriginal People 
(ages 7 to 12)

Learn about Quebec’s aboriginal peoples while creating your own art objects.

Wednesday, March 4 from 10:00 to 11:30 am

Make Your Own Musical Instruments 
(ages 7 to 12)

Make your own musical instruments using recycled objects.

Film screening: NICOSTRATOS THE PELICAN  (ages 6 and +)

14–year–old Yannis lives on a small Greek island that has remained untouched. Since his mother's death, his relationship with his father has become strained. Yannis rescues a young pelican and the bird becomes his friend. A special activity will follow the movie screening.

Come and listen to traditional legends that will take you back to the time of the fur traders!

Learn about one of Quebec’s most popular traditions. Bring your musical instruments (spoons, etc.) and your plaid shirt. The activity will finish with a maple taffy tasting.

Cover Battle: Harry Potter

Often in the publishing world, popular books are re-released. This means that they are published again, with or without changes in the text or the pictures. When they re-release a book, publishers often change the cover to indicate that the book is a new edition.

Here are two covers of two different editions of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, by J. K. Rowling.
